1. Verify the signature

Confirm that the checksum manifest was signed by Bookcicle’s published environment key.

2. Hash the package

Compute the SHA-256 of the DMG, ZIP, or MSI downloaded to your machine.

3. Compare before opening

Match the package hash against its entry in SHA256SUMS.txt before installation.

Can I write without an internet connection?

You can continue drafting and editing locally. Cloud sync, shared collaboration, and cloud-backed AI features require connectivity.

What does “native editor” mean?

The Studio Editor runs as part of the native desktop application, using native panes, windows, input, and persistence while remaining compatible with your Studio projects.

Can I use Studio without installing the desktop app?

Yes. Studio Editor for the web provides a lighter version of the authoring experience in a modern browser. Use Desktop when you want the full native workspace, offline-ready writing, Capture, and local Notary tools.

Does AI replace my authorship?

No. AI is a collaborator you direct. Bookcicle is designed to keep the author in control and preserve meaningful contribution history around the work.

What does Notary prove?

Notary creates cryptographic proof records for exact content states. It can help demonstrate that a specific version existed at a point in the work’s history; it is not a substitute for a commissioned notary public.
